happy families
# 27 September 2003 22:24

Damn, I just love my family. And I just really love the way we all get along. Shit.

Just got back from my cousin's wedding. We weren't expecting anything that followed protocol, because thats just not the way he is, but everyone seems to delight in bitching about everything that is even remotely bitching-worthy.

All I have heard all night is about what my cousins have done and why they don't deserve anything, why we hate out aunt, and why our nan must be blind. I'm just so goddamn sick of it I'd fucking walk out and never come back if I didn't care about them so much.

Urgh. What did I do to deserve this wretched existence. I can't wait until death, it has to be more enjoyable than this.
Don't worry, I'm not going to go out and kill myself or some shit like that. I could never do that - it would cause more pain to the people I love than it would relieve me from. I can put up with it. I'll get bloody pissed off, but I'll put up with it.

Now, gwyn sent this email today which really hit home. I'll copy and paste it here as my final message. Hey, a moral to the story? *shrug*

There once was a little boy who had a bad
temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails
and told him that every time he lost his
temper, he must hammer a nail into the back
of the fence. The first day the boy had
driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next
few weeks, as he learned to control his
anger, the number of nails hammered daily
gradually dwindled down. He discovered
it was easier to hold his temper than to
drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn't
lose his temper at all. He told his father
about it and the father suggested that the
boy now pull out one nail for each day that
he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally
able to tell his father that all the nails
were gone. The father took his son by the
hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You
have done well, my son, but look at the
holes in the fence. The fence will never be
the same. When you say things in anger,
they leave a scar just like this one. You
can put a knife in a man and draw it out.
It won't matter how many times you say I'm
sorry, the wound is still there. " A verbal
wound is as bad as a physical one.

Despite the fact that we all wanted one, there was no powercut today. At least not while I was there. Although the ETNA coffe machine kept tripping out the circuit breakers again. Twice we had to switch the grills and vats back on. Shame it was only a few seconds to reset the switch...

powerless again
# 25 September 2003 22:48

So anyway, we were all having fun at work, as usual, when out goes the power! Earlier than Wednesday, though, and it was out for longer.
Most of the same staff were on, so everyone knew what to do, I rushed out to pull the carpark entrance barrier down so nobody would come in.
Inside the customers were allowed to finish off their meals before leaving, and I had to man the exit barrier to let them out. Some of the staff went down to the new store down at Weaver's Wharf, so I had to let them out aswell.

For an hour and a half I got to stay outside tellign people we were shut, and chatting to the staff from the petrol station next door. Although I did have to talk to Garth too... Asking me if the binmen were coming, every two minutes... Grr...

Not long before power was restored, though, the police helicopter zoomed over and was hovering over near the old British Sugar plant, and there was some kind of explosion, but I don't know what that was all about, couldn't have been anything major, as there is nothing online about it. Maybe there'll be something in the local paper next Thursday. Hmm...

so-so
# 24 September 2003 22:04

This morning it was cold. Damn cold.
Then the bus didn't turn up, so I had to walk to the bus stop outside the high school. Luckily it was too early in the morning for anyone to be at school, because I'd hate to have had to kill someone.

So anyway, to cut a long story short, I was 15 mins late for work. Was no big deal, as I'd phoned to tell them I would be late. Mark however, had missed his alarm or something, and arrived two hours late, so he got a right telling off... hehe.

Later, at about 3.15pm, the lights flickered, then all the power went off. Fun! At first. Because there was no power we had to shut, which is good! But: It also meant, no extractors, no lights, no air conditioning. It was dark (save for the emergency lighting), and the kitchen was filling with the smoke that the extractors had stopped... extracting.

We had to chuck all the food away... Although some of it didn't make it to the bin ;) And we used the time to clean everything down ready for when it came back on. Eventually it did return at 3.55, and I was off at 4.

Also today I completed Jedi Academy, on both Dark and Light endings, and had a little bit of multiplayering.

Then I got to grips with some more PHP, and found out that what I had planned for part of GBnet5 isn't going to work so simple after all. So it's back to the drawing board for that particular bit of behind-the-scenes code.

Now, I got an early again tomorrow, so I best be going to bed. 'night.

i'm lovin' it
# 19 September 2003 06:01

Oh yeah... Had another trainee to train yesterday. He picked it up pretty quickly. I must just be damn lucky in that respect... heh

And a few days ago we had a staff meeting at the new store that opened on Wednesday, and had a little tour. It's titchy compared to the old town centre store, and it's even smaller than our drive thru. I dunno how they are going to cope...
It doesn't even look like McDs... Looks too posh - kinda like a cofee shop or somethng.

I think I got some kind of ear infection or something... It's quite painful and annoying... Grr...

And in other news I am still waiting for Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, even though I had a dispatch email on Monday. If it doesn't arrive today, which is release day for the game, then I'll be pretty annoyed.

Also I am kinda addicted to Kingdom Hearts at the moment. 'tis an RPG-type-thing from Square and Disney. It's better than it sounds :)

Should follow my own advice
# 09 September 2003 17:38

Argh. The car failed it's MOT miserably. On lights, indicators, brake condition and performance, suspension, seatbelt mountings. It'd cost twice the asking price to put right at least!

Needless to say I'm not going to keep it. I let myself get too optimistic about it and now I've come crashing back down to the real world.

Car is booked in for an MOT tomorrow (Tues) at 5pm, which is cool. If that checks out, then I can write a cheque to the owner, send off the registration forms, and wander down to the Post Office to get it taxed. Then all I need is to sort out the insurance... Cheapest quote I can get is £695.41 from Liverpool Victoria, so I'll probably take that one.

In other news, I was actually in the kitchen today at work - gasp!
Even the Store Manager was surprised to see me there, lol.

Whooo... Grayham (as I've been told it is speeled for some reason) dropped of the documentation for the car I might be buying today. So we have the Vehicle Registration form, MOT certificates and user manual and everything now. Which is good.
By the looks of its history it should get through the MOT fine, my dad will sort that out during the week, and if nothing major is wrong with it, I'll formally purchase the car, pay its Road Tax and buy the insurance, and hurrah! I have a drivable car! :D

# 05 September 2003 16:30

This was going to be an anger-venting blog, because my day was going from bad to worse... But then, the mangers shocked me by saying I could have another 15 minutes break because I had had to take my proper break so early this morning. So that gave me a much-needed rest.

Then later when I got home, a family friend, Graham, has found me a little car for £200. It's an F-reg Nissan Micra. Looks okay, my dad will be able to help check it out as I don't know much about cars. So I think I'll take that, it isn't taxed or MOTed, so that'll probably add another couple of hundred to the price tag, but it should work out okay. Just got to sort out insurance now :)

Forgotten stuff...
# 04 September 2003 23:05

I was looking for something and found a huge pile of papers I'd forgotten about. They include pages and pages of writing about the history of the Beeurd Empire, designs of ships and plans of cities... Lists of inventory and weapons. And old designs for GBnet that never made it into actual HTML.

Memories... heh. Anyways, I came up with yet another story idea, and this is probably the one that I will do. Although I have said that many times... 'tis another classic battle between good and evil... Just got to find that stuff I wrote years ago, to see if any of it would be useful this time round.

Will... Not... Turn...
# 02 September 2003 19:15

Heh, I went down town earlier. I was going to wait until after my driving lesson, but then I remembered I don't have one this week because my instructor is on holiday.

So anyway, I went down town and bought the novel of The Lord of the Rings. I can finally read it at last!

WHSmith had an offer on, so I bought The Hobbit and The Silmarillion aswell.
