OMG: It's a blog post!
# 22 May 2008 23:24

Yeah, so I'm currently at Birmingham Airport... which sucks.
It's like half midnight and the whole place is closed... Not really sure what to do lol.

I want a drink but the Costa Coffee that seems to be open has nobody there to serve anyone; which is great. and stupid me forgot to bring any change for the vending machines... yay!

Also, airport internet is REALLY expensive! :(

Anyways what else can I say seeing as I have 20 minutes left and I'm rediculously bored already and my flight isn't for another 6 hrs...

Oooh yeah, my new job!!!

Finally managed to leave McDs after 8 years, thankfully before I lost my marbles completely... lol

I'd seen "Internet Moderator" advertised on Fish4jobs and decided to apply for it... cos--let's face it--what do I do in my spare time anyways?
So I applied and they were impressed and I got the job!

I am enjoying it too which is always a bonus. I do miss some of my friends from my old job though, but still managing to get the occasional drunken night out with them... and many of those with Duane lol.

Went to see Iron Man the other week... it was pretty good. Will look awesome on Blu-Ray lol. Talking of Blu-Ray I just bought the Sweeney Todd... Typically it's due to arrive tommorrow while I'm in India... Oh well...

Ooh and sneaky mister David booked a hotel in Earl's Court last weekend and took me to see Avenue Q! It was pretty good....very funny, lol. So now my ban on sneakiness is lifted so I must thing of something...

Although cos of this trip to India I won't get to see him again until his birthday on 8th June... will have to make it extra special! ;)

Oh yeah, that thing about Costa Coffee reminded me... I've started on coffee again, but hopefully I'll be able to keep it in moderation. I haven't been having ANY hot drinks at home recently, so it's just work that must be a bad influence. :P

Anyways, I'm running out of things to say... so... seeyas!
'til next time (whenever that may be--I'm not doing too well on this once a month thing, lol).

Take care,

luff yhooz!

Don't be alarmed...
# 20 November 2007 20:29

So I was just coming out the office last night, can't remember what time... It was soooo boringly quiet... And the fire alarm goes off. "Shit!" I thought, that's just what I needed really, it's about the only thing that hasn't happened on one of my closes.

I was abit confused as I always thought that if there was a fire I'd notice it first, and after a short pause I am about to order an evacuation of the building - that is when Shane runs up the kitchen from Window 1, to tell me he accidentally knocked the alarm and broke the glass (somehow). We only had one customer in the store - who turned out to be deaf, so he didn't even notice, lol.

So, luckily I've done fire drills before, so I know how to turn off the alarm. But of course, the glass is broken so I couldn't reset the alarm - the best I could do is silence it, just leaving the panel lit up flashing at me that there is a non-existent fire somewhere.

Not being able to shut it off completely, and not wanting a fire engine to turn up I rang Ad and he came down to sort it out, after a few minutes we found the spare glass covers for the alarm points, and replaced it eventually.

A bit of excitement for the night.
And I'm only posting this cos I'm extremely bored.

=P

Alton Towers!
# 30 October 2007 23:48

Hey, long time no blog, eh?

What's new then... since... April? Wow. lol
In no particular order:
1. Actually made a move on sorting my room out... have a nice big slidey-door wardrobe now!
2. New awesomeish computer!
3. couple of job applications been done... had an interview for Soho Coffee in Brum, didn't get that... currently waiting to hear from a guy starting a Subway franchise in Stourport (where HJ Beard's was, so hopefully thats a good omen).
4. Last but definitely not least: David!!! Yay! :D

I met David on MySpace (surprise, surprise) back in May, and we started talking and got to know eachother abit and then I randomly decided to drive down to Enfield (London) to meet him, and from then on there was just no going back. Stuck with eachother now, hehe just over four months now. :D

Anyways, the purpose of this blog...
Somehow managed to ask mum to let David stop over... of course, she doesn't know how close we are, lol but yeah... and then we went for a couple drinks Monday night. wasn't really terribly drunk (well, Duane was), and then we came home and watched some Scrubs, yay!

then this morning (Tues/30th) we went to Alton Towers... or at least we should have gone in the morning... but one thing led to another and we went abit later, lol. :P
It was really quiet, and we managed to do everything we wanted within about 4 hours, including a lunch break lol. And David finally showed me his skills on the dance arcade game thingy - the show off :P
then cos the park was open late, we got to ride things in the dark, woo!
Rode Nemesis in the dark on the front row: that was pretty awesome, although the Runaway Mine Train was pretty fun too lol, the guy on the controls kept sending us round, making us sing such hits as YMCA and Row Row Row Your Boat... hehe. Spinball Whizzer was good fun too lol. We didn't go on the Flume, cos last time we got drenched on the first (little tiny) drop, so we figured that we'd be covered by that previous soaking. lol

All in all a really nice day. :D

Laters (don't hold your breath though)

SNOW!!!
# 08 February 2007 03:56

YAY IT'S SNOWING!!! :D

<3 snow

*hugs... the snow*

Oh, and it would have been nice if I'd have been told that all the good people had been swapped off of my close tonight, and everyone else who was on moved around aswell. It's a lot easier to plan a shift when you know what time everyone is working *rolls eyes*
And the novelty of the new tills is wearing off already, after the first day lol... Although I dooooo get an awesome swipe-card thing which is quite nifty! :D

It's still snowing!!!! YAY!
Seeyas peoples!

The Continuing Adventures of Andy Beard's Closes
# 30 January 2007 11:38

hehehe, this is a good one...

Soooo, last night I had to do the close down at the other store on Weaver's Wharf, as Jase is off sick. Knowing my place, prolly nobody else would do it... lol, it had supposed to have been my close anyways, but Sam did my shift so I could go down the road... Crazy, no?

Anyways. It was all good up until 9pm. I had about £100 on the desk so I locked the office door with the key. Then I went to count some of the inventory in the freezer. I came back to get something and the key wouldn't open the door. So I tried it a couple of times and was starting to panic abit cos I was locked out of the office.

It was so funny. lol

A couple of the crew came and had a go with no luck. I would have phoned someone at this point already, but of course... The phone was in the office, as was my mobile.
So I had to borrow someone's mobile to phone the other store (as my store is the only phone number I had memorised). So I phone Sam and was like, "you are going to laugh your ead off," and she did. I could hear her wetting herself laughing in the background as I explained my situation...

So anyways, I got her to phone Mike, the supervisor for the two stores, and he came down, looking very unimpressed, but slightly amused. He tried the door a couple of times (i think he expected to just be able to open it straight away, lol), and then started ripping down ceiling tiles to see if there was a way to climb into the office that way, but there wasn't. So after attempting to kick the door down, he calls Robin, the store owner, and he brings his toolkit down so they can chisel the window out of the office door and break into the office!

What an adventure, eh? :P
So yeah, I'll get a few jokes today then at work... lol funfun

# 25 January 2007 01:43

So, I didn't get to close early cos the new computer didn't come. :(
Damn them!

And the old computer is so slow that I actually forgot whether I'd opened the till system ready for the morning or not... Hmm. Couldn't be bothered to wait for it as it was already past 1am! Makes me cry! lol

Got my new hairness.

^_^

Walked in to work and Lyn is like, "lets see it", so I take my hat off and she bursts out laughing! How encouraging, lol. Oh well she's mad anyways. She was only laughing cos I've like worked with her for 7 years and its the first time I've ever actualy done anything different with my hair, lol.
Plus it wasn't styled or anything when she saw it, so it didn't look that brilliant. :P

Aaaanyways. I should be asleep.

Two Thousand and Six (plus one)
# 31 December 2006 11:46

Well 2006 has been a strange year, a bit of the old but lots of the new. It's been pretty good overall, which has got to be a first... I mean the last few years before now have been pretty shitty to be fair. 2006 has been the first year that I have been comfortable with myself for a long time, and I've actually made a few accomplishments and new friends that I plan to keep.

Lets see what happened this year?

Hmm, in January I had my SCARY First Aid Course at Kidderminster College with Sam, as part of my promotion to Shift Manager at McDonald's. That was a nerve-wracking experience, but wasn't so bad and definitely can?t have been bad for my confidence.

February saw me actually go get my eyes tested and get some glasses, while March saw talk of the family moving to India, and a certain troublemaker who shall remain nameless finally quit at McDs - much to my joy. Lol

April brought my Shift Management Course at the Hamburger University in London, with Sam. Much fun was had by us down there and on the Tube. Was quite an experience and although I thought it would be scary it actually wasn't.

May was the month I started cutting down my coffee, and me and John broke up. I also had the start of my nightmare closes at work, with the Bitch Brigade out in force on my early ones to make my life hell, lol. And then there was the open that sent my on a mission to find a key in Anna's house and get back home for about 2 hours sleep before work. Oh god, what fun that was.

Then we get June, and the dreaded 06/06/06... Look up the blog post if you want, but it's where the catchphrase "it could only happen on an Andy Beard close" came from. I also got pissed off when my phone died after I got it slightly wet. And let's not forget that I came out to my mates at work, which caused less trouble than I thought it would? So I actually spent a lot of time worrying about nothing? Hmm, I can see a pattern emerging here lol.

In July I was feeling a bit down, cos my birthday plans were all turning from crap to crappier? Then I got together with my first proper boyfriend, Ashley, which totally changed the outlook I had on the year and lifted me out of my little rut and gave me another confidence boost.

August and September were actually pretty good, as I was seeing Ash, but it got crappy at the end with what was undoubtedly my worst week EVER, where everything I had planned to do on my week off went completely wrong and lasted until the beginning of October when Ash broke up with me. So that little crappiness overload dropped me back down into that hole again, but my mates helped me up out of it. Yay for them!
Also in October I started getting more into Numerology and stuff like that - it's interesting, I think, lol - and had a few drunken nights, experienced general crappy feelings on and off throughout the month and was made Co-Forum Manager at JPLegacy.org (the web's largest Jurassic Park information resource - yes, I'm a geek, so the fuck what? lol).

And on to November... Hmm, was a tough month with things going on in regards to work, friends, and guys, where I didn't know what was going on and stuff, but I got through it in the end. Think I've talked about some of the events enough so I don't see need to continue further about it.

Lastly, December comes along, and to be honest, it seems to have been the best month of this year. I've done things I thought I'd never do, and things I rarely do, and apart from the ever-present crappyness at work things went pretty good.

Hehe, so that was my year in brief. I've met a few new people who have affected me greatly in this year. Strangely I got to know them all through MySpace.com lol

Firstly there is Andy, who used to live in Stourport but moved to Brum, to go to the College of Cakes. Almost had a thing going on with him towards the end of the year but that didn't work out because of distance, and other things. But he's been a good online friend throughout the year, although I actually never managed to meet up with him.

Then I met Ashley in Game in Kidderminster, and later on MySpace too. We got talking and eventually started seeing eachother, and for the first time I was actually in a relationship with someone I could actually be with, hold, and was truly happy with. Things didn't work out, however, but we're still friends though so that's all good.

The third good friend of this year is Anthony from Redditch. He has been a really good friend and helped me out a lot despite the fact that we only ever spoke online for most of the year, dunno what I would have done without his advice really. Also he led me to...

...the last but definitely not least, Jon (aka Billy), who is an amazing guy who I really love spending time with and hope to spend lots of time with in the new year. He has become such a good friend in such a short space of time

So, yeah, 2006 certainly has had its ups and downs, but I've pulled through it and think I actually have become a stronger person for it. I've changed a bit too; personality-wise I'm still the same old annoying Andy B, lol. But I seem to have more confidence than I did at the start... Basically because the events of the year have required me to build some up.

Now as for 2007, I plan on finally getting away from McDonald?s. Have grown so fed up of the place now it's unbelievable... Still the same old shite as ever, being under-appreciated and underpaid as ever, so the time has come.

Also I plan on moving out of my parents' house, although this will prolly depend on me getting a new job first so I can afford it. Lol

Don?t plan on any new relationships, I'll just wait and see if anyone comes along. Just looking for new friends and such for now. If I met the right person I'm sure I could make an exception though.

Want to go out with my friends more too, don't seem to do that enough despite having good times.
Soundtrack of the year would definitely be mainly made up of Snow Patrol and Death Cab for Cutie for me... heh, how depressing. Add a dash of The Boy Least Likely To, and My Chemical Romance ;)

Hope everyone has a great night tonight, and hope 2007 gets off to a great start for you all!

Take care,
Andy

Moodyme
# 17 December 2006 00:41

Feeling a bit moody at the moment for some reason.

Fed up with work. Although I did get a £100 bonus in my paycheck this week, wooo! But yeah I'm kinda fed up with it. Some of the people I could do without, but then others make me want to stay. We do have fun sometimes but I dunno it's just a generally shit job, as it always has been. If I did get a new job though I wouldn't want to do the same thing... Hence part of the reason why I didn't go for that Assistant Manager at KFC job. Plus I don't really like KFC anyways.

Managers meal at the Stourport Manor on Thursday night went well. Was a good laugh... With Les (Anna's blow-up man) lol.

Losing respect for a few people at the place though... But gaining respect for a couple more who have stuck up for me recently... Unfortunatly I think those people may be leaving soon. :S

Oh well.

I'm bored out of my mind right now. lol, should prolly be sleeping I guess.

Things are going good with Jon. He's amazing and he makes me so happy. Not seen him for like a whole day and I miss him. heh

Decided I finally need to get my finances sorted out. Sitting around waiting for the lottery win isn't helping. Hmm... Really want to move out sometime. It's my main goal for 2007.

Stressing a bit now cos I remembered about my dentist appointment about 2 days ago. Whoops, guess I'll have to pay some kind of fine for that >.<
And I've proper missed the last posting date for Xmas cards overseas. Need to do my Xmas shopping too. God, I'm panicy now, lol. So disorganised.
The stress-ball I got for my secret santa the other day was obviously a good choice. hehe

Need to do my annual summary of the year soon. Will have to thing about it... This year has definitely had it's ups and downs but it's been better on average than most previous years methinks.

Hmm. Running out of random things to say. Ooooh almost did a £1000 hour over lunch today. Missed it by about 50 quid. how annoying, but it was all good.

Anyways thats about it now. lol
til next time, whenever that may be...

Job hunting
# 28 November 2006 14:43

As usual, lol.

But I answered a job ad for an Assistant Manager yesterday and had a call today... turns out the company placing the ad is the parent company of KFC and Pizza Hut in the UK. hahahahaaaa...

So we had a little chat about why I want to move from McDonald's.

God, I don't really fancy moving from one fast-food chain to another. lol

I thought it was funny.
Close again tonight. wooo

then wednesday off YAY! Might stay in bed all day as i have no plans at all. lol

Gotta work down at at Weaver's Wharf tonight... At least it'll be quiet, lol. :P

Well off I must go... *cry* lol

I am available for texting if anyone has my number and is bored... I know I will be bored. lol

SIO + 1306
# 07 November 2006 19:13

I was going to blog about something yesterday... But now I've forgotten what it was. Oh well.

Anyways, tomorrow I have that close down at the other store which sucks, cos it was supposed to be my day off. So now I have to work 6 days this week dammit. Trying to blag Sat night off, lol. Shell says she has plenty of people... But she prolly didn't mean I could have the night off haha. I can try =P

But yeah we had this Shift Into Overdrive thingy today, which is basically a course to help us run our shifts better... but one of the activites was stacking cups which was quite amusing. None of us would have put money on Lyn being the fasted person at it. hehe it was quite funny.

Hmm what else to say... I'm sure there was something. Grah.
Hmm... Night out tonight with managers. Unfortunatly there will be no drunkeness cos I have to drive. :(

That's about all I can think of right now anyways... lol

til next time, my lovelies

drunken fun
# 03 November 2006 14:28

Haha yesss, drunken fun indeed. Was a good night.
Had to catch the bus into Kidder so I could drink, Duane was moaning cos he said I'd be late and miss the bus, but I insisted I wouldn't.
Of course... I ended up having to run down High Street because the bus was already there... but I didn't miss it at least!
twas Mister Daz Deeley driving so we had a nice old chat on the way.
Matty B was meeting us in town, but we got their early so we went to Yates's... but Duane doesn't have any ID so they wouldnt serve us, lol.

So we went to the Penny Black, had one drink, then got thrown out cos they didn't have ID. lol but I got my money back at least! XD

So then we went to the Red Man for a couple of drunks. Duane put some music on, and I chose a Panic! track but he put in the wrong number, the bastard. lol
After a couple there we went to maccies on Weaver's Wharf for some employee discount food. hehe
And we spent a few minutes drunkenly asking who was working next wednesday cos i'm doing the close down there.

THEN we had the scary walk along the canal to the Watermill.

We were walking along, and sure it was dark, but we could see along the canal alright. and then all of a sudden there was this guy about 10ft in front of us... and NONE of us had seen him coming towards us so we all crapped ourselves basically.
He asked us if we'd seen any milk... so we were like... wtf, no. lol and ran away.

Watermill was funny too. See the video ;)

ZOMG DRUNK

Science vs Romance and other random things
# 30 October 2006 22:03

Sooo, Saturday night was Science vs Romance's first gig, at the Flapper. Which is co-incidently the first place I saw Mr Allan's old band, Far From Silence. But yes anyways it was pretty awesome. Good to hear them play live at last.
Almost got lost in Brum on the way from Snow Hill station though, LOL. It was all good fun though.

Today I had a managers meeting (even though it is my week off) about this silly training day we have next week. But this morning Ad texted me saying the meeting was cancelled... Only to text me later to say it was back on again. lol
Made a right tit of myself by saying Safety instead of Service for QSC, lol... Such a n00by thing to do, I get the feeling I'll never live that down. haha. My excuse is that I am in week-off mode. :P

Othere than that not much else is going on, but to summarise:
* Have the strange urge to go shopping, even though I have no money. Will prolly do that tomorrow.
* Still single. And guys at the moment are just confusing me, so I dunno really what's going on in that department.
* Was promoted to Co-Forum Manager at JPLegacy, woo! So that's pretty cool. Well, I think so.
* Got a payrise at work, at last. :P
* Have to work a shift down at the other Maccies in Kidder next week so that'll be fun. Erm. lol
* Got a night out in that lovely Brummie place up there! 2nd December I shall be on Broad Street making a drunken fool of myself with people from work. Hoping to meet a few people I know off MySpace too, so it should be cool. Then I have an 8 til 4 the next day... hahaha! Classic.

Anyways, that'll be all for now, I think.

'til next time...

i need cheering up
# 11 October 2006 10:22

Why do I always get woken up by the postman needing a signature for a parcel when I've been on the close the night before?

Do they time it deliberately like that?

Can't get back to sleep, so I had to get up, and nobodies online.

Yeah, your dealing with pissed-off Andy today. Last nights close was a nightmare, and todays will prolly be the same.

Had to send one of my mates home cos they kept messing around, and one of my other mates walked out with him. So I've prolly got both of them fired. *sigh*

Had to call up some help to finish off, and I hate doing that. >.<

Working the close again tonight: Oh what fun.

I seem to be having a crappy month so far. Haven't had a proper good day since like, the beginning of the last week of September. Since then it's just been crap. One thing after another, and I'm getting pretty tired of it, to be honest.

Oh, and anyone in the UK wanting to buy a GameCube?

meh.

The Saga of Crap
# 06 October 2006 01:11

Yess... I'm having a bad run of luck at the moment, it seems.
Was on the close, oh fun fun. First Michelle rang in sick, apparently having collapsed or something... then half way through the night Dan had some bad news and I let him go. Managed to blag Ben to stay on the close and get Kyle to stop til 12, but it was all looking a bit pear-shaped.
Then we ran out of shake mix and regular buns, and later some guy reached in through the drive thru window and robbed £80 out of the till while nobody was there. Great. Just HAPPENs to always be my shift when things go to pot... -_-

And then the bloody PC wouldn't close, so I had to leave it for the morning. The close wasn't to good either, so I'll prolly get a bollocking tomorrow. *sigh*

I need a new job. Anyone? Please? :(
lol

Oh wells.
Rang a friend on my break cos I feel the need to go get drunk and talk a bit about... things. So hopefully I shall be rather merry tomorrow night. hehe

Soon I'll be inviting a few peoples to join the staff for my new site... Maybe tomorrow if I can be bothered. lol

til next time

alright alright
# 03 October 2006 16:56

Need to stop being so depressed. Not going to get very far in life like that, am I?
So I was on a 9 til 5, funfun. Was supposed to have my Performance Review, but Ad forgot to bring it in *rolls eyes*
I was dreading Duane coming in cos I knew he would be a pain... Within 5 minutes: "Still with Ashley?" DOH. Soo then he kept bugging me all day, which was actually quite amusing by the end of the shift... as well as kinda annoying.
I'm cheered up a bit now. Got some horrible flu-like thing though... Hardly ate anything for lunch and had a headache all day, bit of paracetamol cleared that right up though when I got home.

Yeah, so I guess I discovered why having lots of good friends is better than having a couple of best friends, so I must thank all the peoples who helped me out the last couple days (in no particular order):
Allan, Karla, Mandi, Pod, Prin, Matt, Ty, Chris, Kim, Duane, Anna, Jess, David, Andy, Du, JM, Vice, and anyone I may have forgotten.

And that's how many people it takes to pull me out when I let myself fall into a hole. Kidding. ;)

But most of all, I want to thank Ashley, for being great. :)
We're still friends and that's what matters.

So... Chin up, and face the world, I guess.

Take care guys

Coffee Update
# 23 August 2006 00:59

So, yesterday... Well, it was the day before now... But anyways. On Monday Dan tempted me with a Cappuccino, and I decided to drink it, because I can. :P

So yeah, I was figuring that I have had no coffee for about 3 months, so surely I am no longer addicted to it, and also, I never actually said I would cut it out completely anyways.

But yeah, he did it again today, and I drank it BUT ONLY to proove that I'm not addicted to it.

It seems quite odd logic really, but the only way to proove that I don't need coffee is to drink it a couple times and then see if I can last without it. Sooo, yeah. :P

Ooh, Wednesday now isn't it? Seeing Ashley tonight, yay! <3

Take care pplz

I'm happy if you're happy
# 20 August 2006 00:47

It's all Ashley's fault! :P

Yeah, he said a while ago that he was looking for a CD... The Best Party Ever, by The Boy Least Likely To.

So I thought I'd be clever and find it for him, only he found it himself and now I have a copy too. lol. But yeah, got kinda hooked on their catchy tunes. yay!

So, I now have had "I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon to Your Star" stuck in my head for a few days. Set it as my mobile phone ringtone too, lol. Deary me.

Must have been another of his grand and evil plans.

We are going to see them in Brum in October! :D

In other news, I am still working on Galactic Basic v8, it's just been slow. Worked 10 days in a row, just. And I finally got a weekend off, and have nothing to do with it! :(
Went into Kidder earlier to spend my £40 clothing allowance from work, and anoyingly I managed to not getting anything for work, so I'll have to go back sometime... Need to find a decent tie that I like! Sam and Karla reckon I should get a pink one, but I'm not so sure about that. Hmm...

Anyways... I'm going to sleep now. lol

Take care pplz!

more on the OJ situation
# 19 August 2006 03:51

Oh, how funny is this.

So, they took away some of that accidental 40 crates of OJ... But now we haven't got enough to last the weekend, so we'll prolly run out Sunday morning!

"It could only happen on an Andy Beard close!"?
# 07 June 2006 01:07

Well, so I'm not superstitious or anything, and I'm sure I can't even speel it, but some of you may remember me saying a week or so ago about 06/06/06, where me and Ad, the Store Manager were sitting in the office and he said "I wonder who's shift is on 06/06/06. I bet that's gonna be fun. It's prolly mine." and I said "No, it'll be mine cos that's just my luck." And it turned out that it was his open and my close. SOOOO, the story begins...

I get to work at about quarter to 2, cos we had a managers meeting at 2pm. I already knew I was one crew member down, so I got there early so I could do my floor plan to make sure I was alright for crew anyways. And I was, it looked like. So we go for the meeting and learn about all sorts of wonderful promotions that are going to be a major pain in the arse in summer, then near the end of the meeting Ad goes, "oh by the way Danny is sick". I'm like "OMG" but decide I'll sort it out laters, cos monday night was fairly quiet anyways.
And then Mike (Supervisory type person above the Store Manager) goes "Oh, I need you to detail clean the RollerGrill toniught too, cos it looks a bit crappy." So I like basically say I will, although without much enthusiasm.

So the shift starts off... Most of my people don't start til 5, and I manage to call one person in extra to help out til 11. We were getting pretty busy, but we were coping alright. The real fun stuff all happens later...

About 9pm we usually skim all the tills and take them all back down to the £50 float that it started off at, basically cos if you're gonna get robbed it'll be late at night usually, cos there are less people about. But anyways, I don't do that, cos by this time everyone is running around like headless chickens. cos by this time we have had a couple people go home cos their shift was over (and they had stopped over anyways).

I blagged Josh to stay til 12, he should have gone at 10. So... about quarter past 10 I go to the "corral" (it's basically a shed in the yard, lol. Silly name, yeah) to count the toys, and I hear this load crashing sound from the kitchen. And think "There goes the dive (washing up) all over the floor." And pay no mind, it happens more often than is funny; it's just a pain cos you have to wash it all again.
But then I hear Brett calling me a few times. So I head back inside to see what happened...

The UHC is a big heated holding cabinet where we hold cooked chicken products that haven't been assembled into burgers or boxed into sets of nuggets or whatever. It sits on top of a trolly-like thing and is about 5ft 9in tall altogether, and 3ft square. It had fallen over. A wheel had snapped off when someone tried to move it over so they could sweep under it.
Not only had it fallen over and a wheel fell off; but it had hit the chicken-side dressing table and the weight of it had caused a wheel to snap off that, too.
Not only had the UHC lost a wheel, fallen over, and broken the chicken-side dressing table, but the chicken-side dressing table is where we put things after we have washed, before they get put away properly. So the aforementioned clean stuff was now all over the floor, scattered around the collapsed UHC and everything that was on the shelf underneath the UHC itself.

So yeah, walk into the kitchen to be confronted by Josh going "it was an accident!"
Brett had a face like "OMFG!?" and Mitch had apparently just been running around in circles, with a similar expression of "OMFG!"

So we set about getting the UHC back upright, it had unplugged itself when it fell, so I said to just leave it off. There was a rack for pairs of tongs to hang on which was now as flat as something quite flat, and a couple of the tongs were bust anyways. We straightened that all out though.
Meanwhile the chicken-side table was looking decidedly precarious, so I unplugged the RollerGrill which sits on top of it (the RollerGrill is kinda like one of those George Foreman thingies) and moved it somewhere safer. Unfortunatly this meant there was nowhere to plug it in, and it would cool down too much for me to clean it. Never mind, eh?

After that disaster we manage to make it to 11pm so I can close. YAY!
Unfortunatly nobody knew how to do the shake machine or coffee machine so I had to start them off before doing my managers stuff. I ended up doing the inventory after midnight, lol. We got out at about quarter to two. Which is quite a late one, really.
It's not the best close either, but I only had myself, one experienced crew member, and one newbie on the close.

Oh I missed something, I had been debating with myself whether to call Ad, and let him know about hte UHC, seeing as he might wonder why everything was wonky when he got in in the morning, as he is on the open again. And he said--and this is the REAL freaky part--that Mike was bringing in two new wheels for the UHC in the morning anyway.
We knew it was wonky, I had noticed it on a close with the infamous Charlie about a year ago or more, and she had once said, "You can just gaurantee that if it ever falls over it'll be on our shift", Charlie had left though, so she missed it, and I was here to see it. craziness.

So yeah. Nice shift. It was one of those things where you just HAVE to laugh, cos there is nothing else you can do really. :P
Hopefully it won't decide to fall over in the night or anything. Fingers crossed...

'til next time!

Ouch
# 03 October 2003 16:58

Heh. This morning I got up at 6am to get ready for work, and decided to pick up all the hangers that were lying around my room. One of them (unnoticed by me) was hooked onto the cable going to my left radio speaker, which is on top of my wardrobe.
Unfortunatly it happend too fast for me to do anything about it, other than think "Uh oh". It's an old speaker and is a wooden box rather than a plastic one... and those corners hurt when they slam into the top of your head.

Work was more fun than usual, as I was in the kitchen away from those idiotic customers. They only other people in there were managers though, but it was still alright. hehe.

# 26 September 2003 22:50

Despite the fact that we all wanted one, there was no powercut today. At least not while I was there. Although the ETNA coffe machine kept tripping out the circuit breakers again. Twice we had to switch the grills and vats back on. Shame it was only a few seconds to reset the switch...

powerless again
# 25 September 2003 22:48

So anyway, we were all having fun at work, as usual, when out goes the power! Earlier than Wednesday, though, and it was out for longer.
Most of the same staff were on, so everyone knew what to do, I rushed out to pull the carpark entrance barrier down so nobody would come in.
Inside the customers were allowed to finish off their meals before leaving, and I had to man the exit barrier to let them out. Some of the staff went down to the new store down at Weaver's Wharf, so I had to let them out aswell.

For an hour and a half I got to stay outside tellign people we were shut, and chatting to the staff from the petrol station next door. Although I did have to talk to Garth too... Asking me if the binmen were coming, every two minutes... Grr...

Not long before power was restored, though, the police helicopter zoomed over and was hovering over near the old British Sugar plant, and there was some kind of explosion, but I don't know what that was all about, couldn't have been anything major, as there is nothing online about it. Maybe there'll be something in the local paper next Thursday. Hmm...

so-so
# 24 September 2003 22:04

This morning it was cold. Damn cold.
Then the bus didn't turn up, so I had to walk to the bus stop outside the high school. Luckily it was too early in the morning for anyone to be at school, because I'd hate to have had to kill someone.

So anyway, to cut a long story short, I was 15 mins late for work. Was no big deal, as I'd phoned to tell them I would be late. Mark however, had missed his alarm or something, and arrived two hours late, so he got a right telling off... hehe.

Later, at about 3.15pm, the lights flickered, then all the power went off. Fun! At first. Because there was no power we had to shut, which is good! But: It also meant, no extractors, no lights, no air conditioning. It was dark (save for the emergency lighting), and the kitchen was filling with the smoke that the extractors had stopped... extracting.

We had to chuck all the food away... Although some of it didn't make it to the bin ;) And we used the time to clean everything down ready for when it came back on. Eventually it did return at 3.55, and I was off at 4.

Also today I completed Jedi Academy, on both Dark and Light endings, and had a little bit of multiplayering.

Then I got to grips with some more PHP, and found out that what I had planned for part of GBnet5 isn't going to work so simple after all. So it's back to the drawing board for that particular bit of behind-the-scenes code.

Now, I got an early again tomorrow, so I best be going to bed. 'night.

i'm lovin' it
# 19 September 2003 06:01

Oh yeah... Had another trainee to train yesterday. He picked it up pretty quickly. I must just be damn lucky in that respect... heh

And a few days ago we had a staff meeting at the new store that opened on Wednesday, and had a little tour. It's titchy compared to the old town centre store, and it's even smaller than our drive thru. I dunno how they are going to cope...
It doesn't even look like McDs... Looks too posh - kinda like a cofee shop or somethng.

# 08 September 2003 20:02

Car is booked in for an MOT tomorrow (Tues) at 5pm, which is cool. If that checks out, then I can write a cheque to the owner, send off the registration forms, and wander down to the Post Office to get it taxed. Then all I need is to sort out the insurance... Cheapest quote I can get is £695.41 from Liverpool Victoria, so I'll probably take that one.

In other news, I was actually in the kitchen today at work - gasp!
Even the Store Manager was surprised to see me there, lol.

# 05 September 2003 16:30

This was going to be an anger-venting blog, because my day was going from bad to worse... But then, the mangers shocked me by saying I could have another 15 minutes break because I had had to take my proper break so early this morning. So that gave me a much-needed rest.

Then later when I got home, a family friend, Graham, has found me a little car for £200. It's an F-reg Nissan Micra. Looks okay, my dad will be able to help check it out as I don't know much about cars. So I think I'll take that, it isn't taxed or MOTed, so that'll probably add another couple of hundred to the price tag, but it should work out okay. Just got to sort out insurance now :)

Training Again
# 13 August 2003 17:06

Been training a new person again. This time though, the new guy picked everything up easy enough, and I spent the whole shift with him going over all the proceedures and everything, and did a couple of OCLs.
Also, this time we were on the front counter, which I hate... But I think I did okay. At the end of the shift he shook my hand and thanked me for helping him on his first day. Now I've never heard of that happening before. Must mean I'm such a damn good trainer ;)

Trainees
# 11 August 2003 16:57

Argh... We had a new girl starting today and I had to train her on grill-side. She was just doing dressings, I was on buns (and in charge of the grill team), and there was another person who started a month or so ago working the grill.
It's bad enough trying to explain something to someone who has never done it before... But I had to keep my eye on the guy who was supposed to know what he was doing aswell, because he kept messing up. I've been in worse situations though, before I was on the training team...
The new girl had to go home early because she was sick anyway, lol.

So I get home to have a nice cup of coffee to keep me awake, and the milk had gone off, so I had to wait until my mum got back with some shopping... Grrr...

Oh, Just an afterthought, 'twas 101 F down in Kent yesterday. And that is the hottest it has ever got in Britain since records began in 1875. Coolness.
Or hotness, anyway...

Arghness
# 03 August 2003 01:23

Well today has just been brilliant... Well yesterday really, seeing as it's 2.15am... But anyways: First off, I was on a 4-11 at work. I hate evening shifts because I spend all day thinking about going to work. Then when I get there I'm on Window 3 with a new girl, it probably would have been alright if I was actually on window 3 a lot, and knew what was going on. We were also vastly understaffed later, so we were just waiting on most of the food and orders were takeing forever to get taken out - resulting in a lot of customers being annoyed at me.
Then, while the managers were sorting out stuff for the close and cashing up, I was the most senior non-manager on the front, which meant I was in charge of the front... Which isn't easy when the other people were a bunch of twats who didn't give a shit, and wouldn't listen to half of what I said unless it was convenient for them.
Then I realise I've also lost my wallet. Just perfect... I know it's at home somewhere...

Late Entry
# 24 July 2003 20:25

This is for yesterday... I'd forget my brain if... Oh wait, never mind.

Anyways... Yesterday I was working 7.15 - 'til 4, I was in the kitchen, on grill, looks like they finally found someone else who can do drive-thru. The schools have broken up for the summer holidays, so we have extra staff during the day now. Unfortunatly it's also busier in the day, which leaves less time for slacking.
Anyways, everything was going fine, the shift went pretty quickly, but then I realised that both my parents were at work, meaning I had no lift home. Worse still, I had no money so I decided to walk back home. Remind me never to do that again... I left work at about 4.10, and at 4.50 I was only just crossing the town boundary. Not wanting to walk all the way home, I phoned my mum to wait for me when she finished at 5pm, luckily she did, but it wasn't until 5.10 that I actually got there - she'd only just finished, so it worked alright in the end.

Just back from work, was on a 4-11. I haven't got changed yet, so if you see me on the webcam in my unifrom, that's why.

I was in kitchen for a change, and on grill side. For the first couple of hours I was getting the piss taken out of me for no apparent reason, but fortunatly Mark was off at 6, so I got a bit off peace after that.

When I was on my break, The Lost Work: Jurassic Park came on, and I'm quite annoyed that I missed the best parts... Even though I do have it on DVD anyway.

Later on we shut one of the Hoob's toys into (full) the soap dispenser, hehe... 'tis funny, was a repeat of the past incident when we did the same thing with a Clifford toy. Only the first time round, it had previosuly been dunked in a cup of water and left in the freezer.

Then I had to take off two of the grills :(
I'd never done one before, so theyfinally got round to showing me... Damn it's hard on the arms, all that scrubbing. I think I need my elbow grease back, they're feeling a little cranky...

Anyways, I need to get changed.

Timewaster
# 14:52

I'm just posting this to waste a bit more of my dad's time.

I told him I had to check something online before I went to work, but when he finished what he was doing, he wanted to leave to drop me off straight away, so I'm just wasting time here...

dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum.

That'll do. Seeyas ;)

# 16 July 2003 16:36

Well what a day... was on an open, that's 6am 'til 2pm.
Got to work at 5.50, and the opening manager wasn't there yet, but I expected that. What I didn't expect was for the delivery lorry to be there already, as it usually doesn't arrive until 6.30... So I just had a little chat with the window cleaner while we waited...
Fortunatly it was fairly good managers on the open, otherwise I might have had to shoot myself... But anyway, Me and Andy N. were doing delivery (half the staff are called Andy, so there's bound to be at least one more on the same shift as me) It wasn't a particularly huge delivery, but the 30 crates of shake and sundae mix plus the 20 boxes of fries almost killed us, lol.
Anyways, after delivery I was helping train a new staff member on the front counter, thankfully it hasn't been as hot today as yesterday, because I'd have just been hiding in the walk-in chiller all day.

When I got home my sister was watching Grease, so I had to suffer that for a few minutes, before I started watching something on TV... I can't remember what it was now, so it couldn't have been very interesting...

Well, it was raining this morning, and I was just thinking that Summer had finished already, when the sun reappeared and melted us all again.

I finally booked driving lessons! My first one is tomorrow... So when I told my grandad he said that both he and my mum were doorhandle/wing-mirror collectors when they were learning... Let's hope I take after my dad.
Also, someone I know is selling their Mini... I might buy it, but I dunno wheteher I can afford to take out the loan :/

And more good news! I'll be going up to £4.35 per hour at McD's, not brilliant, but could be worse :p

Heh, I just learned that the Eurovision Song Contest just finished, with the UK ending with ZERO points for the first time in the contest's history. Haha! Load a crap programme...

Also, I got a nice deep cut on the back of my left hand, after a record breaking 16 whole shifts of not cutting myself at work! lol, it was on one of those huge wheelie bins we have in the yard.

Also tonight - classic McD moment:
This woman came through the Drive Thru, and ordered a Big Mac and large fries. She had her own drink with her - a can of Slim Fast! Heehee

# 23 May 2003 16:03

Damn it's been so busy at work today... I am totally exhausted.
I dunno why it has been so busy, all I know is that there was a queue out the dorr almost all day, I started at 7.15am and didn't get my break until 1pm, which is probably illegal, but I don't really give a fuck right now. Too damn tired to be bothered about it.

Even when I left at 4, the sad bastards where still piling in through the Drive Thru, ordering their crappy meals with extra crap to go with the crap they just got... It's days like these when you which you had phoned in sick, or you feel like 'accidently' plunging your hand in to a 182 oC vat of cooking oil, just so you don't have to work.

I'm gonna get changed... And maybe go to sleep. Although most likely I'll end up stuck on GBnet or playing some game...

Largely uneventful day... They finally showed me how to filter the vats at work - I've only been there three years.

Came up with some cool ideas for Galactic Basic. But nobody will be able to see them until v4 is done.

I _am_ working on it, honestly.

Got the shout outs added for your blog-viewing pleasure :)

Nice busy day at work... Well not nice, but was busy, and was made even nicer by the fact that it was double-pay, due to the Bank Holiday. Hurrah!

I should be tidying the rest of my room, but my computer kept begging me to use it, so I couldn't let it down now, could I?

Well, I think it looks a lot better now.
I might add a bit of cellpadding to the tables the blog text goes in, but right now, if I make it look any better my ego will probably get so big it won't fit in my house.

Anyways. We had a full-field (inspection type thing) at work today. Quite funny, especially when we had a huge delivery that took 4 hours to put away. It was all away before they arrived to inspect the place though.

I'm pretty glad they didn't ask me any questions, because although I probably would have got them right, when I'm asked important stuff my mind somehow goes blank. lol.

Dunno how we did though... Heh, st00pid customer of the year award goes to the guy this afternoon that bought a pack of 4 nuggets for £1.19 so that he would get a sauce free, intead of paying 5p for it.
